Here are some quick and easy ways to create a festive mood.

#1 Grab a few candles, place them in the center of your table and light them. The twinkling adds instant ambiance. If you have a decorative plate, stand, or even a few branches to place underneath or around the candles it’ll look even better.

#2 Holiday ornaments – Collect a few of your favorite solid-colored holiday ornaments and place them in a clear glass container. Grab ones with complimentary colors like silver and red, or collect ornaments that are all one color but varying sizes to add effect.

#3 Spruce up an old wreath by adding small ornaments to the boughs. Attach them with wire through the back of the wreath to ensure they stay in place.

#4 White Christmas lights – String white Christmas lights up a stairwell banister. Hang them around a doorway, around a mirror, or adorn a plant in your home with the small sparkling lights.

#5 String cranberries and/or popcorn and hang on your holiday tree with white lights for an old-fashioned holiday tree.

#6 Fill a glass bowl with holiday fruit. Pomegranates, oranges, and pears are in abundance during the holidays.

#7 Gather pine cones and string them for a decorative touch. Place them in a basket on your mantle or table, or add glitter or sparkly spray paint for a more festive look.

#8 Purchase a bag or two of cranberries. Place them in a clear glass bowl filled with water. Add a few small red votive candles and light them. The candles will float amongst the red berries. You can also fill a bowl with the red berries, skip the water, and position the candles amongst the berries.

#9 Display your holiday cards by hanging them over the fire place or around a doorway.

#10 Gather branches from your yard or the tree farm. Place them on the wall over your fireplace, create a wreath from the branches by weaving them together or use them as the foundation for a centerpiece.

#11 Gather candy canes both large and small in a tall vase or clear glass. Tie bows around the middle of the candy canes and display.

#12 Wrap mirrors and doors with wrapping paper. They’ll look like giant gifts.

When you use your imagination, you can come up with tons of great ideas to decorate your home this holiday. Take a look around your home and yard. What do you already have that you can use to decorate? Keep it simple and have fun!

There’s just something special about the twinkling lights, the smell of pine in the air and the festivity. If you’re tired of fancy decorations or want to take your holiday decorating in a new direction, why not go au natural? Give your home a pure and simple holiday feel this Christmas.

Pine Cones

Pine cones are a natural element of the holidays. People often place pine trees in their home and decorate them for the holidays, so it’s only natural that pine cones are also part of the season. You can go on a family hunt for pine cones in the woods and make it a true homemade decoration. You can also purchase pine cones at most craft stores during the holidays.

Decorating with pine cones is simple and can be quite diverse. You can make wreaths and table centerpieces with a hot glue gun, a bit of wire and pine cones. You can be really organic and set them in a bowl or basket to display. Or you can get a bit festive with them and use glitter or spray paint to add flair. Imagine a crystal bowl of gilded pine cones. It’s an inexpensive and simple craft with a lot of drama.

Branches

In addition to pine cones, pine branches can make wonderfully simple decorations. Again, you can collect pine branches on a hike with your family in the woods. You can also find them at your local tree nursery. They often trim the branches after a customer has cut down their tree. The trimming is part of the tree packaging to make it easy to haul the tree home. The extra branches usually end up being mulched, so you should be able to take a few home without a problem.

You can also purchase real or fake pine tree branches at your local craft store. Also like pine cones you can use them to create a simple centerpiece or wreath. Or you can get creative with them. Add a few pine cones, shiny ornaments or a small bird for extra flair. Additionally, consider hanging the boughs on the wall for a focal point during the holidays.

Candles

Candles are great for setting a mood. They can be festive, solemn or simply beautiful. Candles collected in groups of like colors are best. White, symbolizing peace, and the twinkling effect of small candles can be quite lovely. Red candles, green, silver or gold candles can be festive. Group them in varying sizes for aesthetic appeal. Place them on tables and in windows for the most ambiance. Take care to keep a fire extinguisher nearby and always put out your candles before leaving your home or going to sleep.

Snowflakes

If you’re skilled with paper cutting and folding, the fun childhood activity of making paper snowflakes can take on a new look. Cut out elaborate snowflakes in beautiful paper and display on a table or hang in a doorway.

Holiday decorating doesn’t have to be bright, colorful and noisy. It can be simple, pure and quiet too. If you’re looking for new ideas to decorate your home this holiday, look to nature and the items you already have in your home.

It is when we all come together and share the magic that is the winter holiday season. If your family puts up a Christmas tree, turn it into a family event this year.

What is it about the Christmas tree? It is the center of our celebration. When we decorate, it is usually the first item put up. If nothing else is displayed as far as holiday adornments go, there will still be a Christmas tree.

Have you thought about turning the tree decorating process into a new family tradition? Here are some tips about how to go about that.

1. Shop for the tree together. This works well for artificial and live trees. There are many varieties of artificial trees and colors as well. For a live tree, take an evening and visit the tree lots and farms in the area to find your special Christmas centerpiece.

2. Make popcorn garland. This was a favorite in centuries past when the country was young and electricity was non-existent. Pop a couple of bags of microwave popcorn. Let two people work on a string from both ends, adding pieces of popcorn. Sit together so that you can talk over holidays past and munch on the extra popcorn.

3. Sing holiday songs. To get into the spirit of the season, have soft instrumental tunes or traditional holiday songs playing in the background. Don’t be afraid to join in and croon a few bars while you decorate the tree.

4. Make a special treat. If you save the tree decorating until the evening, prepare a super sweet dessert to give everyone that burst of energy they need. The tantalizing smells wafting from the oven will motivate everyone to pitch in just so they can eat later.

5. Create home-made decorations. This works well with younger kids. Maybe they can’t hang ornaments or help with the popcorn, but you can teach them to make paper garland. Using construction paper and glue, your kids can create interlocking links to hang on the tree.

6. Have someone place the star on the tree. This is a family tradition that passes down the privilege of crowning the tree from oldest child to youngest and back again. You can use one special star that everyone has agreed they like, or let each person choose a star of their choice when it is their turn to top the tree.

Do you already have some Christmas tree decorating traditions that you observe? If not, here are six ideas to make the occasion more special for the family. Doing things together never gets old and your kids can pass it down to their children one day.

‘Tis the season to decorate your home in all the splendor of Christmas. I personally love decorating for the holidays… pulling out all of those bins of forgotten decorations… discovering new items I purchased throughout the year… and falling into deep nostalgia. Decorating for Christmas is almost as fun as the actual day of Christmas. It truly is a special time of the year and making your home special will bring warmth to your family and friend’s hearts… and create wonderful memories.

I love decorating for Christmas so much, it looks like Christmas blew up in my house… but in a good way!

So… I’ve listed 17 ideas for decorating home your home for the holidays. I hope that you find at least one new idea for you… and maybe a few will inspire you with a whole list of original ideas!

1. Brighten your christmas tree

It’s easy to string lights on your Christmas tree… but take tree lights very seriously at my house. My husband wraps each individual branch and twig with lights. Yes, it’s a bit tedious… but the result is breathtaking. Hey, you’re going to be looking at that tree all month… take the extra time and really make your tree glow… literally.

2. Decorate your stair rail

This is a given, but it amazes me how few actually do it. Whenever you see beautifully decorated homes in magazines you see this grand staircase wrapped in garland and lights. It’s stunning. And you can have the same exact effect in your home. It’s easy! Wrap your banisters with garland. You can go cheap and use the standard green garland in a box… or you can go all out and get some more realistic garland. Whatever your budget can handle… do what’s best for you. Now, wrap the garland in white lights. It doesn’t matter what kind of garland you use… because once those lights are on… wow! But don’t stop there! Tie a pretty christmas ribbon bow at the bottom and top of the hand rails. And if you have enough ribbon, wind the ribbon loosely around the rail. Don’t wrap the ribbon exactly like you wrapped the garland… offset it a bit. Now, you’re really decorating!

And if you’re inspired… grab some shiny christmas ball ornaments and hang those on your garland all the way up the stairs. I bet you didn’t know your house could look so luxurious!

3. Add christmas bows

I add bows made of all kinds of christmas ribbon all over my house. On the stair rail, on my wreaths… on the ends of my draped garland. On door knobs. I attach them to my outdoor house lights. I add a big swag christmas bow just below my angel on my christmas tree. And for my second tree (yes, my second tree) I have a big 2-ribbon tree topper bow.

4. Hang wreaths in windows

It’s common to hang wreaths on your front door. But I love hanging wreaths on my windows. I’m not talking about just on the outside of your house. I also mean on the inside. I don’t hang wreaths in all my windows… my I select a room that needs a little extra Christmas spirit and hang one in each window. I also hang a wreath above the fire place. And another on my book shelves. And guess what… I add bows to all of them.

5. Greet visitors with some fun

All the formal decorating stuff is nice… but don’t forget to add some personality and fun to your rooms. Especially in your foyer. Find something that makes you smile and put it where people will see it as soon as they come into your house. I found this Christmas center piece that is made of holly leaves, berries and 3 stacked gingermen. It is adorable! It makes me smile and I put it on a table in my foyer. Now, I enjoy it when I come home… and others can enjoy it when the visit. It’s silly and I love it!

6. Create memories with small decorations

Growing up, I alwasy remembered my Mother’s little Christmas knick-knacks. Like snow globes and funny little snow men. I really didn’t follow in tradition when I first had kids. But my Mother gifted me little silly items every year. And as the years have gone on, my children ask about some of these items when we decorate the house. I have a little igloo with snowmen that has a little light that acts like a fire. My daughter remembered this from last year and was so excited when she saw it out. It’s the little things… literally… that can be the most special.

7. Decorate your fireplace mantel

My fireplace mantel varies from year to year. I’ve draped garland and lights and hungs stockings. I’ve displayed a variety of different sized candles dressed in pine cones and garland. I’ve displayed framed photos of the family. Whatever you decide… just have fun with it. Experiment. Try varying heights of a few different items. Try simple… try cluttered. Find your style.

8. Add garland

Like wreaths, add garland everywhere! I wrap garland on the banisters… I frame the door ways. I drape garland with fruit over my french doors. I lay garland along the top back of my couches. I even wrap my columns in garland.

10. Add a little character to your front yard

I used to do the “nice” decorating in my front yard. White lights on the shrubs. Garland and white lights around my door. And it IS nice. But now, I try to add a little fun. Not too much… I still don’t want my yard looking like I’m having a yard sale! This year I lined my front walk in light up candy canes. So cute! I still have my white lights on everything else… but its the candy canes that make me smile. And my kids love them!

11. Place wrapped gifts

Wrap boxes in shiny paper… tie a ribbon on them… and place them around your house. What fun! I place wrapped gift boxes on my book shelves, a few in a blank corner… some under the tree… anywhere that you need to add a little Christmas cheer. What an easy way to decorate!

12. Candles

Ah, the soft flicker of candle light can really add to the mood of a cozy home. I love the look of candles in windows. Obviously, don’t use real candles for this. I also like to light a few candles around my home. The smell of cinnamon and holly is delicious.

13. Fill glass vases with cranberries and sparkle

Pull out those glass vases that just sit in your cupboard. Fill them with fake cranberries, clear glass stones, salt, pine cones, and/or christmas balls. Layer and be creative. And then leave these filled vases out. This a professional decorator trick. It’s quick and it looks amazing!

14. Bowl of ornaments

Take a large bowl and fill it with some of your extra christmas balls. Or, collect some unique ones that you personally love… and place those in your bowl. Place this bowl in the center of your coffee table or dining table.

15. Photos of Christmas memories

Pull out some of those precious memories of Christmases past and put them in some decorative frames. Shiny silver frames… red painted frames. Whatever you like. And place these around your house. You’ll find that you’ll start remembering stories and sharing these moments with your friends and family.

16. Christmas hand towels and bathroom mats

Don’t forget the bathrooms! Add a cute hand towel and a christmasy floor mat. I have a chimney tissue box that I place on the back of the hall bathroom toilet. Just add a little somethin’.

17. Set your dining table

You may not be expecting dinner guests, but it’s always nice to have a decorated and set table. Pull out your favorite holiday dishes. I have these fun white dishes that have reindeer, christmas trees and santas painted on them. I love them! Dress up your table with colorful place mats…. place random christmas balls over the table… place a dramatic center piece… and light some votive candles.

As I write this article, I can already think of a few more christmas decorating ideas. But I have to end this list at some point. Decorating your home for the holidays can create a lot of wonderful memories that you’ll relive each year you pull out those bins. So, get to it! And happy holidays!

Oh… and don’t forget to hang jingle bells on the doors… and mistletoe above the doorways… ok, ok, I’ll stop!

Your children could also help by making some Christmas ornaments with you; this will be a great family bonding experience that will be a lot of fun and get everyone into the Christmas mood.

If you have a great deal of red or green items around your house and don’t use them anymore you can use these items to help make unique Christmas decorations and this will not cost you any money! Using red and green coloured objects that you own around your house such as pillows is a great way to go about this.

By using some of the ideas that are discussed you will find a way to decorate your house in an inexpensive and fun manner. Take a look at all your old decorations and ornaments and try to reuse them, as this will be a super cheap option for you.

Christmas decorating does not have to be a hard task or one that breaks the bank. You more than likely already have a great deal of items around the house that you can use for this upcoming Christmas when it comes to ornaments and decoration. Red and green are traditional Christmas colors and give you a great place to start when trying to find materials to use. Some ideas that are cheap involve simply filling a basket with green and red yarn, filling a red coffee mug with green peppermint, shiny red and green apples in a glass mixing bowl and draping red or green scarves over lamps or as tablecloths on small foot tables.

If you would like to go a more natural route another option is to use pine branches at the center of the table along with a few pinecones and maybe some festive ribbon. To create a touch of style and elegance adding a few red roses throughout the branches can really create a great ambience that exudes a Christmas feeling. This looks excellent on a buffet table and you can wrap them with silver paper or aluminum foil to really bring out the colours.

Candles are great options for Christmas as the flicker of the flames are very Christmas in how they feel. You can even use natural alternatives for candle holders such as hollowed out and polished fruit or vegetables. Using votive candles you’ll find that you are able to put them in pretty much anything you desire. You can arrange them into different height groups to create a nice ensemble. Using bay leaves around these candles with ribbon that is secured by glue is a great way to hide the candle sticks.

Christmas Tablecloths are an excellent way to achieve a sense of Christmas. Most meals are eaten around the table and Christmas is one of those meals that surely will require a table as you’ll have a ton of food and guests over possibly. By having a Christmas table cloth you have a cheap and easy option to show off some Christmas attitude. If you are not wishing to use a store bought tablecloth you could use an old table cloth and your children and yourself could spruce it up with glitter, magic markers, wrapping paper and other Christmas decoration.

Christmas tree bulb ornaments are very popular decorations to hang upon Christmas trees but they can also be used in other ways. One popular choice is using a glass bowl to hold the bulbs with tinsel. This creates a great centerpiece that gets the point across very inexpensively and easily. Using a marker to write the name of a Christmas guest on a Christmas bulb and creating a unique ornament for them is also a very fun idea. This allows you to give them a parting gift that will allow them to remember your Christmas forever.

During the festive season Christmas lights are extremely common inside and outside the home. One great idea that is often overlooked that adds a great deal of atmosphere to your room during Christmas is filling a bowl with a set of Christmas lights. If you want to get a sparkly effect consider using Christmas lights that blink on different intervals. If you desire another option with Christmas lights is to hang it over curtains, mantels and along railings for stairwells.

If you’re a budget minded person who wants to have fun this Christmas consider making a great deal of your Christmas decorations. This is an inexpensive option for you that will potentially be a family bonding experience. Use your savings this Christmas to put more under the tree!

Forget about all the turmoil in the world and just relax and have fun with the upcoming holiday season by decorating; this will bring some fun and happiness to your family, friends, coworkers and your life. Let the fun and beautiful ornaments be a source of inspiration for everyone in your life this Christmas season.

Make decorations and the associated decorating that goes along with it a fun thing to do this year; if you’re decorating your house let your family and friends help you out, or make it an office activity to bring everyone closer together. One thing that I find kind of cliché however very appealing is the traditional hanging of a Christmas wreath upon my front door; the next step is then finding a place for the Christmas tree for everyone to start putting up the ornaments.

By putting up small Christmas ornaments on your household plants or bonsai trees you will find that it will brighten them up and the area around them. Also consider putting miniature characters from various different animated themed Christmas shows around them also. By doing this you will find that they will exude Christmas spirit and create a playful atmosphere.

There are other Christmas atmospheric elements that are possible to put around your house or office to showcase the Christmas spirit. Some ideas that are great at showcasing Christmas spirit are past Christmas photos, Christmas themed books, Christmas themed sculptures and Christmas photo cubes on walls, tables and desks. These may seem like they wouldn’t make much of a difference but they really add to the magic that is Christmas.

Filling empty glass jars and bowls with natural items that people associate with Christmas is a great idea too. Pine cones, walnuts and Christmas candies are always great options to have around your house. Simple things such as sitting around with hot cocoa with your family around the fireplace while the snow falls are great ways to decorate your house also; this isn’t so much decoration through ornaments I suppose but rather through Christmas spirit and family unity.

Decorating stairs and balconies with twisted ribbons or miniature icicle lights are great ideas also. They look terrific and scream out holiday spirit. As Christmas encroaches they will simply start to drive the holiday spirit into everyone and cause a happy and fun feeling around home or the office.

By adding a few more Christmas time plants such as poinsettias and you will find the colours they bring will cause your rooms to glow.

A warm and inviting environment is very important to helping create Christmas spirit; by using some of the ideas presented you will find that a Christmas mood will be created and this magical season will bring your family, coworkers and you closer together.

Themed Christmas trees are big this season. Themes are fun to create and gives your Christmas tree its own distinct personality. But if it’s your first time to veer from the traditional hodgepodge Christmas tree, you may feel overwhelmed and clueless as to where to start.

Here are some helpful hints to making a personality-filled tree you and your guests will love this Christmas season. Warning: your traditional tree will be envious of the new hot shot taking all the attention.

1. Choosing a theme

The first step is to select a theme. Your theme should coincide with your personality. You may generate your theme from anything personal, such as:

A hobby

Your career

An existing collection

A favorite color or

A personal interest

Think about what makes you original to create the most unique theme that reflects your individuality. Do you have a shoe and purse fetish? Obsessed with Elvis? Utilize your quirks to make a one-of-a-kind tree that’s so you.

Coordinating your theme to your personality results in a tree you will adore and allows you to showcase to your guests what makes you, you.

2. Start with the foundation

Start your theme at the bones, (or rather, the branches), of your tree. Spray paint the tips in a color that makes your theme pop, or add lights in the color of your choice. Even better, make your own lights by covering bulbs with lanterns made from materials related to your theme. Just be very cautious what you are using is fire-resistant. If you have any doubts, call the fire department. Better to be safe than sorry. Once you are in the clear, you can create an unexpected light source to make your tree pop.

3. Ornaments that Wow

Ornaments are the most critical aspect of your theme. They are what make your tree have a theme, using ornaments with the same motif.

The key with ornaments is to think outside the box. Some of the most creative themes do not have a single ornament that was manufactured with the purpose of decorating a tree. Car lovers can hang small car parts and tools, gardeners can use (new) gardening tools and silk flowers and grillers can attach barbeque sauces and grilling utensils.

Think outside of pre-fab figurines to make your theme original. If you want some standard ornaments to maintain some of the look of a traditional Christmas tree, or if your theme lacks cohesion, incorporate small, sold-colored ball ornaments.

4. Topping it Off

Too many people neglect the top of the tree, putting all their focus into the ornamentation and leave the peak bare. Topping the tree is a perfect opportunity to put your creative mind to work. Since a topper must be open at the base in order to rest on the pointed tip of your tree, it can be somewhat difficult to think of a clever solution.

You may be able to find a pre-fab topper to suit your tree, but designs are somewhat limited. If your theme has nothing to do with stars or angels, you are probably better off finding an open-based item, or get crafty and make your own topper.

Hats are simple toppers that add whimsy and fun. There are many varieties to choose from: baseball caps, chefs hats, tuxedo hats and more. Although it’s a fun element, a hat doesn’t always fit your theme.

To make your own topper, roll a piece of thin cardboard into a cone shape and decorate your cone to match your theme. Not crafty? A simple backup that still gives your tree a finished look is to tie thick ribbon in a coordinating color to the top. The bow should be large and its tails should cascade down for a dramatic effect. Topping your tree will make it look polished and complete.

If you want to impress your guests this Christmas with something out of the ordinary, creating a theme is easy and fun. Choosing a theme that reflects your personality makes for a tree that is all your own. By starting from the base and thinking outside the lines, you can make a stellar themed tree to adorn your home.

Once you see how simple and fun themed trees are, you’ll want to make more and more to fill each room in your house!

Christmas table decorations for those one of a kind Christmas parties are fun and easy to make. If you do plan on making your own Christmas table decorations, they can be time consuming and if you have a dozen or so tables to decorate, you need help!

It depends on the type of Christmas party you will be hosting, the atmosphere you wish to provide and the style you want to showcase. If you’re having a Christmas party for children, simple centerpieces with take home accents will do but if it’s an elegant grown up Christmas party, your Christmas table decorations will probably be elegant and traditional.

If you’re indeed hosting a Christmas party for children, be as creative as you wish. A good idea is to decorate using styrofoam balls. They are inexpensive, usually around five dollars at the craft store and they are sold in bags of single sizes or mixed sizes. With some non-toxic craft paint, some glue on eyeballs and seed beads, you can turn a ball into an adorable snowman or an ornament fit for the tree.

The best way to make a snowman who will actually stand up straight is to cut a small circular piece of thick cardboard, using a thin bamboo stick put a hole in the center and allow the stick to stand. Take one of the largest styrofoam balls and slide it down the bamboo stick to the base of the cardboard, then repeat with a medium sized ball and then a small one for the snowman’s head. Decorate with your imagination!

To give the illusion of bright ornamental balls, either paint or spray paint the different sizes of the styrofoam balls and roll them in glitter. Add stripes and stencil on stars or snowflakes to make them unique. Use a paper clip to secure a ribbon for hanging.

For adult parties, sometimes more design effects should be used to create the perfect Christmas table decoration. Start with the other decorations in the room, the theme and go with it. Start with the tablecloth…if it’s country style then use a bright flannel topper or Christmas colors like red, green, gold, silver or white. If the room is dim, consider adding lighting elements on some of the tables.

One beautiful way is by adding floating candles in dyed water.

At your local discount store in the craft section there are beautiful glass and plastic bowl options to choose from and the average price for a small to mid sized piece is about a dollar and a half or three dollars for the larger ones. Fill the bowls ¾ full, add food coloring and stir in your desired color. Packages of floating tealites or votive candles are about five dollars for a twenty-four pack and when lit in a darkened area, they appear so elegant.

Confetti sprinkled around the bowls on the tables in holiday colors with twirls of ribbon adds just the right finishing touch.

Another idea is to make your own crystal balls using etching solution; you can even purchase festive stencils to etch. Using the same bowls turned upside down with a small candle with do the trick as long as they are sitting on a base that allows air to flow for the flame. To make a fitting base with the look of gold foiling, without the cost or the time, use aluminum foil and gold craft paint. Wad up the aluminum foil to give it a crinkled appearance and carefully open it up to its original size. On a flat surface lightly paint gold accents all over the shiny silver side of the aluminum foil. Two oblong wooden blocks, also available for pennies at the craft store will do the job when wrapped and placed beneath the crystal ball. Finish off the look with small gift boxes wrapped in multi designed Christmas wrapping paper or foil with a hidden dinner mint for each guest at the table.

Christmas table decorations are a must for any Christmas holiday party and the guests will be astounded with the creations. These are all easy and they don’t take much time to put together. Make your party unforgettable using simple elements for your Christmas table decorations and explore the creative aspect of Christmas décor in it’s many forms.

Christmas flowers represent joy, happiness, sharing and giving while symbolizing the hope in the hearts of each one that gives or receives them. Flowers and greenery brighten up our homes and give them a festive look. Christmas flowers will add an extra dimension to your holiday activities. Here are some ideas for Christmas flowers.

How to use them

Christmas flowers can be used in a variety of ways. They are a special and unique gift that can be given to the hosts of the parties you are invited to or can be sent as gifts for family members or friends who are not near at Christmas. Other ideas include wreaths, candle rings, centerpieces, bouquets, flower baskets and house plants. Whatever way you decide to use you can order them from your local florist or by clicking on your favorite online florist.

Choosing the colors

The main color themes for Christmas flowers are red, white and green. In recent years purple has also become a popular Christmas color. You can use these colors alone or in combination. A traditional arrangement for Christmas would include a bright combination of red and white flowers with greenery added.

Choosing the flowers

There are many ideas for Christmas flowers when you begin to choose which flowers you want to use. Any flower you enjoy can be used as a Christmas flower, but there are certain flowers that lend themselves more to the color themes that are generally used at Christmas. The most popular are roses, carnations, poinsettias, alstremerias, gerberas, tulips, lilies, iris, orchids, serenetas, lisianthus, amaryllis and chrysanthemums. They can be used as cut flowers in a bouquet wrapped in cellophane, a lovely arrangement in a special base or a potted plant such as a poinsettia, miniature Christmas tree, hyacinth, miniature rose, gerbera, lily or reindeer fern.

Choosing the base

The size of your vase will depend on the size and shape of your flower arrangement. You can use Christmas mugs, baskets, ceramic pots and red, green or white vases. Use your imagination and look around your home to find other interesting items you could use to put your flowers in when you are considering ideas for Christmas flowers. They can even be made into a ring and placed around a candle.

Adding the Final Touches

To make your flowers more interesting choose a variety of greens. Use pine, boxwood, noble fir, holly, rough juniper, fern leaves or cedar. Add ilex berries, sparkling thistle and silver twigs for fill in. You can do a glass hurricane with a red taper candle inside and surround it with holiday greenery, red flowers, red berries, pine cones and a silver bow. You can change the look by changing the color of the candle, flowers or bow. Snowmen, reindeer, different colored Christmas tree balls, pine cones, ribbons of different color and texture along with miniature snowflakes can be added to give the flowers a special touch. Another one of the perfect ideas for Christmas flowers could be a snow topped house cradled by an arrangement of magnificent flowers and a beautiful bow.

D. Damore, a 30 year veteran in the retail floral industry, shares his experience on the different aspects of fresh cut flowers, green and flowering plants for all occasions.
